研究概要

本研究の目的は、これまで見過ごされてきた海洋中深層への炭素輸送に与える動物プランクトン群集の影響を評価することである。糞粒は表層で量的に卓越する動物プランクトン分類群から排出されているが、同時に沈降中にこれら分類群によって消費・断片化されていた。沈降中におおきく変容あるいは減耗する糞粒よりも、動物プランクトン量が少ない海域や時期には、動物プランクトン鉛直移動者によって輸送された呼吸量が動物プランクトン群集を介した炭素輸送において相対的に重要になった。
