研究開始時の研究の概要 |
This study is divided in four main areas. The first covers the literature review in heritage language education, bilingualism, and cultural identity. The second area includes data collection at community based Spanish language schools organized in Japan and Peru. The third area involves participation in conferences. The final area includes the production of a booklet and website.

研究実績の概要 |
We carried out the following research activities. a) We continue with the data collection including Interviews and questionnaires online and in-person. We started with the transcriptions and analysis. b) We presented the co-authored papers: Family Language Policies, 32nd International ASELE Conference in Italy, and Challenges and Perspectives in Spanish as a Heritage Language. 34th CANELA Conference in Tokyo. c) We conducted a collaborative workshop with the students and parents from the Spanish Saturday school in Shonandai to maintain the heritage language and culture. Students from the Spanish special project from SFC also participated in the workshop. d) The preliminary results of this study are included in a future paper that is under review for publication.

理由
This study is progressing according to the objectives initially planned for the second year of research. The data collection was mainly concentrated in Japan due to the Covid-19 limitations at the Nikkei institutions in Peru.
In addition to the continuous literature review, we are analyzing the data from the interviews, questionnaires and observations at the Spanish language school gathered in the first two years. The second set of learning materials was prepared and distributed among the participants in the collaborative workshop in March.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
In 2023, the researchers will continue with the analysis of the data and transcriptions of the interviews. At the same time, we will focus on the preparation of learning materials for the heritage language learners.
In August, the researchers will present the paper El espanol como lengua de herencia en las familias Nikkei en Japon which was accepted in the 33 ASELE Conference, specialized in the field of Spanish as a foreign, second and heritage language. On the other hand, we will continue writing the findings of the first two years to be sent to an Academic journal for publication.
