研究開始時の研究の概要 |
A new analytical approach to how global warming might affect regenerating tree seedlings in the forest understory. This study will provide quantitative fitness data on representative species grown under a climate warming scenario useful in predicting forest structure changes in the future.

研究実績の概要 |
In this final year of the project, we have completed our data collection in the following areas: 1) detailed environmental data (light level and temperature) across the growing season, 2) leaf phenology of target species from leaf emergence to leaf senescence and, 3) leaf performance (in carbon gain) with respect to leaf cost of target tree seedlings.We have begun to process our data in order to answer the question "are these plants capable of achieving leaf functional parity?" in the current forest environments. This will be followed by simulations of tree seedlings performance under future global warming scenarios. These results will allow us to assess whether changes in the forest environment under climate change will adversely affect tree seedling performance and alter their survival.
