研究開始時の研究の概要 |
The Armenian Genocide (1915-23) committed by the Ottoman Empire created 800 thousand Armenian refugees who spread all around the world. Several hundreds of them passed through Japan and left to the US and Europe between 1915 and 1930. This study aims to clarify number of the refugees that arrived in Japan, the destinations they went on to, as as well as to describe the refugees’ experience in Japan. This will be done by analyzing historical data from Japanese and international archives. This study will contribute to the field of refugee studies.

研究実績の概要 |
During this fiscal year, the research mainly involved gathering historical documents and data from Japanese archives, along with some contributions from international and private collections. Participation in academic conferences provided useful feedback. Currently, the focus is on understanding these historical sources and data, followed by analyzing them carefully. The goal is to create a clear and understandable article to share with other researchers, contributing to the ongoing discussion in historical studies. Future plans might involve exploring more specific historical topics or broadening the geographical scope of the research.

現在までの達成度 (区分) |
現在までの達成度 (区分)
3: やや遅れている
理由
Despite juggling teaching responsibilities across four Japanese universities as a part-time lecturer, the researcher's commitment to advancing their scholarly pursuits remains unwavering. While the demands of teaching leave scant room for dedicated research endeavours, any available moment is diligently allocated to furthering the academic investigations.
The primary factor contributing to the slight delay in research progress is the substantial time commitment required by teaching responsibilities.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
The principal objective for the current year is to finalize an article for submission to a peer-reviewed journal, marking a pivotal milestone in the research agenda. Concurrently, plans are underway for a research trip to the French Diplomatic Archives in Nantes, France, scheduled for September. However, the realization of this endeavor hinges upon the issuance of a visa by the French Embassy, the status of which remains uncertain. Should the visa be granted, the scope of the trip will likely be modified to prioritize the collection of pertinent documents pertaining to Armenian refugees in Japan. Conversely, in the event of visa denial, efforts will be redirected towards intensive analysis of existing datasets and meticulous preparation of the manuscript for publication.
