研究開始時の研究の概要 |
Small and medium-sized enterprises navigate and operate in a web of different and sometimes contradictory governance modes across corporate, political and social domains. Drawing on organization theory, and non-market strategy literature, this project proposes the concept of cultural imprinting, including a socio-spatial view of community imprinting and a political-ideological view of norm imprinting. Adopting a mixed research design, this project empirically demonstrates how SMEs in China manage the interdependence between self-governance, market-based standards, and multi-stakeholder rules.

研究実績の概要 |
This project was set out to examine how firms' social and political actions are shaped and conditioned by localized institutional arrangements. In the past year, a comprehensive literature review was conducted regarding the intricate relationship between place and corporate philanthropy. This paper was published in a special issue of "International Journal of Management Reviews". This review paper laid a solid foundation for further empirical investigations. In addition, an empirical paper focusing on how entrepreneurs navigate institutional transition in managing their networking styles was published in "Entrepreneurship Research Journal". A third paper examining tourists' enactment of the COVID-19 crisis on the cruise ship the Diamond Princess was published in "Tourism Management".

理由
The research project is progressing well, despite the COVID-19 crisis, which created difficulties in organizing field trips for data collection, and visiting collaborators for exchanges.
|
今後の研究の推進方策 |
The plan for this project is twofold: first, data collection including interviews and field trips will be organized in the year to come. Second, working papers will be submitted to high quality academic conferences and journals.
