研究開始時の研究の概要 |
We will investigate the differential changes of the activity of the DMS and DLS projecting SNc dopaminergic neurons in rats performing a probabilistic reward based task. Also, we will elucidate the dopamine dynamics of local dopamine release into the DMS and DLS during the reward-based task.

研究実績の概要 |
Our research revealed the critical roles of nigral dopaminergic and striatal output pathways in integrating reward expectation with motor actions. We demonstrated that both substantia nigra pars compacta (SNc) and dorsal striatum neurons reflect reward anticipation, enhancing the activity of direct and indirect pathway striatal projection neurons (dSPNs and iSPNs) similarly. This occurs alongside dopamine-mediated effects, where higher reward anticipation leads to a significant increase in action-related neuronal and dopamine release activities, challenging classical basal ganglia models. This study advances understanding of the dynamic interplay between reward expectation and motor control within the nigrostriatal system.
