研究開始時の研究の概要 |
Study design: A longitudinal birth cohort study. This study will include 1,258 children from Hamamatsu Birth Cohort for Mother and Child (HBC Study) with available follow-up information.
-Exposures: The main exposures are changes in BMI during infancy and genetic risk for NDDs.
-Outcomes: The ADHD and ASD symptoms among children at 6, 8, and 12 years.

研究実績の概要 |
This study aimed to investigate whether the interaction between genetic risk for neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) and changes in body mass index (BMI) during infancy (birth to 24 months) affects the severity of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism spectrum disorders (ASD) traits in Japanese children. The study population comprises 1,258 children from the Hamamatsu Birth Cohort for Mother and Child with available follow-up information. The main exposures of interest are (1) changes in BMI between birth and 24 months, and (2) genetic risk for NDDs. The outcomes are: symptoms of ADHD and ASD measured at 6, 8 and 12 years. Data analysis was completed for outcomes assessed at 6 years of age. Also, we conducted follow-up interviews among 422 children aged 12 years.

理由
Our systematic review on early BMI changes and neurodevelopmental disorders, conducted in the first year, found no similar studies among Japanese population. We also calculated the polygenic risk scores for autism spectrum disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorders by the first academic year.
Data management for follow-up interviews conducted when the children were 6 and 8 years old has been completed. Additionally, the initial analysis of the follow-up data collected when the children were 6 years old has been completed. Moreover, we already conducted follow-up interviews with 422 children who have now turned 12 years old, and assessed their ADHD and ASD symptoms using the Conners Rating Scale for ADHD and the Social Responsiveness Scale, respectively.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
Our research project is still ongoing, and by the end of this academic year, we plan to conduct follow-up interviews with an additional 300 children who are now 12 years old. Furthermore, we intend to prepare two manuscripts based on our findings and submit them to international journals.
