研究成果の概要

腸管上皮の再生機構を明らかにし、ヒト消化管再生医療に応用することが期待されている。正常な腸管上皮を体外で操作し解析することは技術的に困難とされていたことを背景とし、申請者・渡辺と分担者・中村は、正常マウス大腸由来上皮細胞を長期にわたり無血清培地中で3次元的に培養維持する画期的技術開発に着手し、かつ独自の大腸上皮幹細胞培養技術の応用を図り、「正常上皮細胞機能を解析すること」、「培養大腸上皮細胞の臨床応用技術基盤を確立すること」を目的とした。
