研究概要

１千年に及ぶ西洋中世は、キリスト教を受容・発展させ、キリスト教的価値観を社会の隅々まで浸透させた。西洋中世の文化的・宗教的連続性は近代を経て現代に及んでいる。21世紀の西洋中世文学研究において、文化の多元性、多様性、流動性に目配りし、固定化された認識から抜け出し、柔軟な視点を構築することが必要である。本研究は、病気、健康、生、死などの人間学的問題について、教会の考え方が支配した中世末のヨーロッパ社会に焦点を当て、中世末の宗教と医学・医療の接点を探り、文学作品、宗教書、医学書の新たな読みを提示した。
