研究概要

当研究により、ベンガルにおけるカースト的社会秩序形成に結実する中世初期の社会変化、すなわちブラーフマナ層のアイデンティティー、ネットワーク、文化的権威の確立、同業者集団の組織化およびブラーフマナ層によるそれら集団の序列化と体系化への試みが明らかとなった。また、東インド他地域における社会形成過程の相異についても、一定の示唆が得られた。加えて、未公表のものを含む６点の碑文の校訂・再校訂により、中世初期南アジア史研究の史料拡充に貢献した。
