研究開始時の研究の概要 |
I propose to investigate Ludwig Wittgenstein's relation to the school of Gestalt psychology, by comparing Wittgenstein's conceptions of language, cognition and perception to those of the Gestalt psychologists, in particular Wolfgang Kohler, Kurt Koffka and Max Wertheimer. By focusing on the therapeutic applications of the work of both Wittgenstein and the Gestalt psychologists, this research will assist in the development of a framework for understanding injurious life experiences, providing a theoretical background that will be useful to discourses such as trauma and moral injury.

研究実績の概要 |
We held three workshops on Gestalt themes in philosophy at Kyoto University, on 7.11.23, 9.3.24 and 11.3.24, with speakers including Shunsuke Sugimoto (Keio), Takeshi Sato (Senshu), Sandra Laugier (Paris), Arata Hamawaki (Auburn) and Martin Gustafsson (Abo). I gave lectures on Gestalt themes domestically overseas, strengthening international research networks. I presented work on the philosophical dimensions of Gestalt psychology in Australia (Deakin and Flinders), in Paris (Sorbonne), and in Tokyo (Uehiro Centre). I applied for, compiled and submitted a Routledge edited volume on the theme of Transformative Experience. I also signed a book contract with Cambridge University Press for a monograph entitled "Wittgenstein and Gestalt Psychology".

理由
Securing a monograph with CUP allows me a venue to concretely develop the results of the research conducted to date.
The original plan to develop links with Chicago University has been delayed due to unforeseeable personal difficulties experienced by the American research collaborator. However, alternative links with European, American and Australian researchers are being developed.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
In the final year of the project I will continue to build domestic impact for the results of the project, publishing a research monograph and making the results available in Japanese as well as English.
I will build links with domestic and international researchers, including working with psychologists to understand philosophical issues in cutting edge psychological frameworks.
