研究開始時の研究の概要 |
This project firstly maps out the trajectories of diversification, institutionalization, and marketization of Chinese independent filmmaking in relation to the global/regional/national mediascapes. Secondly, it interrogates the visual politics of the independent works by highlighting their aesthetic experimentations and the drastically-changing sectors of production, distribution, and circulation/exhibition.

研究実績の概要 |
In the past year, I was able to conduct interviews with several Chinese independent cinema-related filmmakers, film producers, scholars, and curators who are based overseas during my field trip to Europe. Additionally, I gave presentations both online and in person at international conferences to showcase my research output. Several journal articles and chapter drafts have already been completed and are now in the pipeline for publication. I am also co-editing an English-language book on Chinese arthouse cinema. Furthermore, I actively sought out opportunities to give several public talks that focused on contemporary Chinese cinema and border-crossing filmmaking in Asia.

3: やや遅れている
理由
Partially due to the global pandemic, the impossibility of conducting field trips to China has hindered my research progress. At the same time, the academic projects that I have participated in are not progressing as fast as I had imagined. For instance, the waiting period to have one of my co-authored journal articles published has been extended, which has slowed down the publication of my research. Additionally, my extra teaching task has allowed me less time to dedicate to my research.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
With the lifting of travel bans, I will be able to enter China again to conduct my fieldwork there. Trips are being planned for the summer of 2023. In terms of my academic projects, I am maintaining close communication with my co-authors and the journal editors to ensure that we are making progress and meeting deadlines to the best of our ability. I am also seeking out opportunities to present my research at conferences and collaborate with others in my field. Although the extra teaching task has been challenging, I am trying to find ways to integrate my research into my teaching whenever possible. I am prioritizing my time and being more intentional about how I allocate it, so that I can make the most of the time I have for research.
