| 研究開始時の研究の概要 |
This project aims to revisit the nature of Japanese politics by investigating the role played by right-wing forces in the country’s reconstruction after World War II. Focusing on a paradigmatic group of intellectuals and activists, it will examine how they transitioned from prewar empire and fascism to postwar liberal democracy and assess their impact on political, cultural, and state milieus. It will generate a new understanding of the inner workings of the postwar Japanese ruling class.

| 研究実績の概要 |
During this period, I started working on the book project for which I have received this grant. This entailed research in archives and databases. I have presented this work in progress at four international conferences that have provided me with invaluable feedback. This has helped me to work on the manuscript and I have written three chapters. Moreover, I have submitted an article written jointly with colleagues for the English Historical Review.

理由
I wrote three chapters in one year. Given that these chapters required intense primary source research, the progress is more than satisfactory.

| 今後の研究の推進方策 |
During the next 12 months, I plan to write two-three more chapters of this book. Because a significant amount of research is required, I may only be able to write two chapters. Moreover, I plan to organize a workshop on the history of conservatism from a global perspective.
