研究開始時の研究の概要

This research project will examine the possibility of using Virtual Reality (VR) to provide substitute tourism experiences to people under travel constraints. It is expected that this project will contribute to a better understanding of people’s behavior mechanism in the context of virtual tourism. The research findings of this project will provide useful implication for designing virtual tourism experience that can benefit people under travel constraints, including elderly people, disable people, or those who confront disaster events.

研究実績の概要

A SP survey was conducted in Japan to collect information about people’s constraints to participate in virtual tours. Data collected from the survey has been analyzed to clarify the influence of different factors and role of travel constraints in people’s behavior intention in virtual tours. In order to reflect behavior mechanisms and represent people’s behavior intention in virtual tourism in a more reasonable way, the corresponding theories and models (e.g., technology acceptance model, regret minimization model, random parameter model, etc.) was applied and logically integrated. Based on the data analysis, the influential factors on people’s behavior intention in virtual tourism for different types of destination was clarified.

理由

This research project aims to examine the possibility of using Virtual Reality (VR) to provide substitute tourism experiences to people under travel constraints. Concretely speaking, the objectives of this research are: (1) to identify influential factors on behavior intention to participate in virtual tourism; (2) to investigate the role of travel constraints in people’s behavior intention in virtual tourism; (3) to examine the influence of virtual tourism experience on people’s well-being.
The first two objectives have been achieved in this year.

今後の研究の推進方策

In the next step, a questionnaire survey will be conducted to collect information about people’s well-being before and after their virtual tourism experience. Based on the understanding of influential factors on people’s behavior intention in virtual tourism and the influence of virtual tourism experience on well-being, implication will be derived to design virtual tourism experience that can benefit tourists under travel constraints, including elderly people, disable people, or those who confront disaster events.
