研究開始時の研究の概要

A practical study that visually investigates anticipated landscape change and photomedia literacy of young learners in the Tohoku region through collaborative rephotography workshops developed with international students of University of Tsukuba for high school students living in and near the site of the proposed International Linear Collider (ILC).

研究実績の概要

PHASE ONE was completed after concluding rephotographic fieldwork conducted in May (Tono, Hanamaki, Kitakami, Mizusawa, Esashiku-ide, Oharamura, Orikabe, Ichinoseki), in December (Tono, Hanamaki, Kitakami) and March (Mizusawa, Ichinoseki). Draft photobooks (i.e. visual fieldbooks) were made for every location (total of 36 books). Each book contains visual documentation of landscape change to be used in workshops in PHASE TWO. A public exhibition of fieldwork was held at University of Tsukuba in June. Analysis of fieldwork was also presented at two conferences (one domestic in July 2023, one international in April 2024). The project blog was redesigned for sharing fieldwork. Informal photomedia classes with university affiliated high schools provided some workshop preparation.

3: やや遅れている

理由

PHASE ONE was completed later than planned. This was necessary because three sets of rephotographs from each location would share more landscape change with workshop participants in PHASE TWO. Planning for PHASE TWO was delayed until September. A schedule conflict prevented a first workshop from happening in Tono in March. Progress of PHASE TWO is expected to improve in Spring 2024.

今後の研究の推進方策

PHASE TWO is now expected to comprise at least six photomedia literacy workshops before Summer 2025. These workshops are expected to coincide with exhibitions of the PI’s fieldwork in six locations (to be determined). A class of graduate students at University of Tsukuba have been recruited to support the workshops and exhibitions from Spring 2024 onwards. In addition to domestic exhibitions of the fieldwork, initial findings from the workshops will be shared via academic conferences.
