研究開始時の研究の概要 |
I will examine whether L2 learners of Japanese are sensitive to verb transitivity by adopting a prototype-based view of acquisition. I will investigate whether learners of three L1 backgrounds: Hindi-speakers, Persian-speakers and Vietnamese-speakers exhibit similar sensitivity to transitivity.

研究実績の概要 |
The principal achievements of the second year of this project are as follows: (1) the publication of the findings of the initial round of surveys targeting Vietnamese-speaking learners of Japanese in a peer-reviewed journal (currently in print), and (2) the partial completion of the second round of surveys targeting Hindi-speaking learners of Japanese. (2) also involved analyzing the argument structure of Hindi verbs in order to predict misuse that may be attributed to the learner's L1.

The initial delay in conducting the first round of surveys had a cascading effect on the schedule of the second round, resulting in only partial completion by the end of the AY2023.
