研究実績の概要 |
In 2023 I continued to collect data for the wider project and presented some preliminary findings at the Association for Asian Studies in Asia held in Daegu, Korea. The conference ran from Jun 24-27 and I presented "Invade and Conquer? Adult Toys and the National Body in Contemporary Japan". The panel aimed to provide a new interpretation of gendered nationalisms that went beyond the framework of “woman as national womb/territory/myth” by exploring the active role that women play in post-2010s production of Japanese national identity. My role was to discuss how feminist sex shops respond to patriarchal and militaristic language that attempts to “invade” and “conquer” women’s bodies and control their access to pleasure. The language of conquering and angry responses were key.

理由
This project has been delayed due to a family emergency. I requested a pause on the project from the JSPS but was told it was not possible. I am disappointed that greater support is not offered by the JSPS for those raising young families and while I hope to extend the project for a year, pausing would be preferable considering my family circumstances at the moment.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
Future work will commence once I have addressed my family emergency. Meanwhile I continue to collect data.
