研究開始時の研究の概要 |
This proposal will investigate the physical mechanisms responsible for transport, acceleration and loss of energetic particles in the radiation belt. This proposal will help in accurate forecast of space weather and will protect and provide a safe environment for human activity in space in future.
|
研究実績の概要 |
The objective of this research proposal is to investigate the wide range of energies (from keV to MeV) plasma and waves in the inner magnetosphere using observation from Arase satellite. Using the Arase satellite data for corotating interaction regions driven magnetic storms, we investigated statistically the spatial and temporal plasma pressure distribution of ions and electrons in the inner magnetosphere. Our study highlighted the importance of electron pressure to the ring current in dawn sector during moderate magnetic storms. The contribution of electron to the ring current has not been investigated much earlier. Our results indicate an important role of electrons in the ring current build up. It can help in the accuracy of the future models of ring current and space weather studies.

理由
We investigated statistically moderate storms observed during Arase era (2017-2021) during solar minima. However, recently (2022 onwards) Arase observed many intense geomagnetic storms due to solar maxima. Therefore, we have a unique opportunity to study and compare the energetic particles in inner magnetosphere during different solar activity.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
Plasma pressure of ions and electrons in the inner magnetosphere plays an important role in plasma dynamics and generation of electric currents. The knowledge of plasma pressure in the inner magnetosphere is important as it reflects the source, transport and loss of different ions and electrons population. Earlier we established and published results of energetic particles in the inner magnetosphere during low solar activity. Recently, as solar activity increases, Arase observed many intense magnetic storms. Therefore, it will be very important to understand the inner magnetospheric evolution during different phases of solar activity. We will investigate and finalize the comparative study using Arase observations.
