研究開始時の研究の概要 |
The behavior of matter (the "equation of state") at the highest densities, several times that of nuclei, is currently one of the open questions of science. Such high densities can be basically studied only in neutron stars. We will perform advanced numerical-relativity simulations of two neutron stars merging in a single, even more compact object and analyze the data for getting information about the equation of state. We will also simulate neutrino emissions from these systems, in order to connect the details of binary neutron star mergers with the observations of gamma-ray-bursts.

研究実績の概要 |
In the past academic year, we have performed, on two supercomputers at different locations, tens of simulations of binary neutron star mergers, with different equations of state. We have collected, cataloged, and analyzed the data, in order to extract relevant frequencies in the spectra and other quantities of physical and observational importance. This allowed us to draw interesting and new conclusions on how one may obtain information on the equation of state from gravitational wave data originated, in particular, after the merger of these systems.
