南北両極の氷床コアに含まれるエアロゾル組成を用いた氷期間氷期の大気化学環境の解読

研究成果の概要

アイスコアに保存されている水溶性エアロゾルを微粒子1粒ごとに観察する手法を世界に先駆けて開発し，南極で採取されたドームふじアイスコアに含まれる硫酸塩エアロゾルを測定した。その結果，過去30万年間の氷期-間氷期サイクルにおいて，硫酸塩フラックスと気温の間に逆相関がみられた。この事実は，硫酸塩フラックスが大きい時代は，エアロゾルの間接効果が気温低下をもたらしていることを示唆する。最終氷期最盛期（約2万年前）から現在の間氷期（現在～約1万年前の温暖期）への気温変動のうち，硫酸塩エアロゾルの間接効果による寄与は最大で5℃と見積られ，硫酸塩エアロゾルが氷期-間氷期の気温変動に寄与したことを解明した。
