地球のマントル遷移層物質の高温高圧下における弾性特性の決定

研究概要

マントル遷移層鉱物のP波、S波速度を地球深部マントルに対応する温度・圧力条件下でその場観察と組み合わせた超音波法を用いて調べた。実験結果と観測結果を比較することにより、地球深部構造に対して新しい見地を与えた。実験の結果によると、ガーネットの化学組成のバリエーションによって低速度層を説明することは困難であることがわかった。このことは、ガーネットの複数の遷移が深さ660km付近の地震波のスプリッティングを引き起こしていると考えられる。
