研究開始時の研究の概要 |
Values-based education (VBE) pedagogies in tourism higher education will be: 1) collected, 2) revised and modelled, 3) peer-reviewed, 4) demonstrated in workshops and summer schools, and 5) published as a series of books as well as a peer-reviewed repository of practical examples.
|
研究実績の概要 |
The research emphasises values-based education. This is a learning environment where students actively engage with real-world challenges. In the first year a RA has been hired. A summer school "Teaching Tourism" held at Hokkaido University, with 14 participants; postgraduate students, academics, and industry practitioners. I have presented the research at conferences in Australia (CAUTHE), and in Japan (JSTHE), and delivered a symposium workshop at Curtin University. A global syllabi collection, coupled with the establishment of a peer review process, exemplifies the project's commitment to knowledge sharing and collaboration. Work with colleagues in Canada towards hosting the syllabi collection on a dedicated webpage underscore the emphasis on fostering a community of practice.

理由
The RA recruitment experienced delays, hindering initial data collection, subsequent efforts have compensated for lost time. Dissemination of research to international audiences surpassed projections, enhancing project visibility. The initiation of a summer school proved instrumental in forging networks with other institutions, attracting participants from diverse backgrounds. Moreover, significant steps are taken in publishing, with edited books receiving pre-approval from a publisher. Although workshops at other Japanese universities have yet to be scheduled, promising initial discussions with three universities indicate forthcoming engagements in autumn 2024.
|
今後の研究の推進方策 |
Anticipating the project's evolution, a second iteration of the summer school is scheduled for August 2024, followed by a themed conference. These events will foster collaboration with local communities and serve as the foundation for an edited book and a special journal edition. Investment in audio-visual equipment will enhance classroom instruction and facilitate the innovative outdoor conference format, integrating multimedia elements along a trek between community stakeholders. Strengthened relationships with colleagues at Japanese universities will facilitate expanded data collection and research collaboration in the project's second year.
