研究開始時の研究の概要 |
This research combines literary analysis, semiotics, and translation theory in order to investigate language ideology, spirituality, and identity management in the context of Medieval England, specifically as witnessed across different genre texts in and related to the Vercelli Book manuscript.
|
研究実績の概要 |
Phase 1 objectives have been accomplished, and findings related to the linguistic and spiritual perspectives in the Vercelli Book prose and Cynewulf poems were presented in the form of a research paper at the International Society for the Study of Early Medieval England 21st Biennial Conference (University of Manchester) on 30 June 2023, as well as at Leeds International Medieval Congress (University of Leeds) on 6 July 2023. A revised and extended version of the paper has been invited for publication as part of an upcoming special issue of Nottingham Medieval Studies (currently awaiting peer review) under the provisional title of "Cynewulf's Resonance with the Vercelli Book: Spiritual and Linguistic Perspectives Performed across Poetry and Prose".

今後の研究の推進方策 |
Phase 2 of the project addressing the Vercelli Book's Andreas as a specific comparative case study is ongoing and slightly ahead of schedule. Initial findings have been compiled and accepted for presentation at the upcoming Japan Society for Medieval English Studies West Branch Conference (Hiroshima Shudo University) to be held on 8 June 2024. A library visit for manuscript consultation with the Vercelli Book itself is also being scheduled for September of 2024, pending final arrangement with Silvia Faccin (Conservatore manoscritti e rari, Fondazione Museo del Tesoro del Duomo e Archivio Capitolare).
