研究開始時の研究の概要 |
Oikopleura dioica is a species of pelagic tunicle widely distributed in the surface waters of oceans around world. In this project, we will investigate the genetic diversity, population structure, demographic history of O. dioica using population genomic methods. We plan to sequence the samples collected along the ocean currents from Okinawa to mainland Japan using Illumina platform to get SNPs and small InDels (Insertion and Deletion), which will be employed to analyze genetic differentiation, population structure for these samples collected in 2018 and 2019 and samples collected in future.

研究実績の概要 |
1. We did sampling for Oikolpleura dioica around Okinawa mainlads and Amami islands in July 2023. Besides O. dioica, we got other interesting marine zooplanktons. We have sequenced more than 107 O. dioica individuals sampled around Ryukyu islands in this project. We have finished the data analysis for these 107 indiviudals and found O. dioica around Ryukyu has very high genetic diversity and high proportion of rare variants. Genetic differentiation among these field sampling locations is very small. 2. I made a conference presentation titled Population Genomic Study Reveals Local Adaption Signal of Oikopleura dioica around Ryukyu islands in the International Symposium: Past, Present, and Future of the Marine Environment and Ecosystem, Tohoku, Japan.

理由
We succeeded in sampling O. dioica around Ryukyu islands and have already sequenced 107 individuals with Illumina platform. And we are doing analysis and paper writing. We are going to submit the original research paper within this year, 2024.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
In this year, we are going to extend our sampling for better understanding the genetic diversity of this marine zoomplankton. And we are going to finish the data analysis of the previous 107 individuals and publish the results of this part.
