研究開始時の研究の概要 |
The climate crisis is impacting marine ecosystems, notably affecting plankton like Oikopleura dioica, which thrives along Japan's coastline. Our study investigates how these zooplankton adapt by simulating climate change conditions, studying physiological responses, and analyzing genetic data. We aim to uncover molecular strategies that enable their survival in changing environments, providing insights into the adaptation mechanisms of marine chordates.
|
研究実績の概要 |
- We showed using molecular, morphological and reproductive analysis that the Okinawa Oikopleura dioica is probably a different species or sub-species to Osaka specimen (Masunaga et al, 2022). - We have recently completed the detailed genome comparisons between the Okinawa and Osaka Oikopleura dioica species (Plessy et al, Submitted). - We have established comparative assays to measure the development rate of Oikopleura dioica in different saline concentrations. - We have performed RNA-seq experiments of different time-points of exposure to different saline conditions.

3: やや遅れている
理由
- We are currently analysing the RNA-seq data. - We are preparing to test further conditions (temperature, acidity). - Maintaining constant temperatures over long periods is currently a technical challenge.
|
今後の研究の推進方策 |
- We are detecting clear phenotypic changes depending on the conditions. - Our main focus is to understand the gene regulation underlying the adaptation of behaviours. - Given the large number of cell types in an organism, we are currently testing single-cell RNA seq and cell line development.
