Supramolecular polymerization is characterised by a series of concerted supramolecular equilibria. It is envisioned, that addition of suitable small molecules will enable a time-resolved control over these equilibria and in turn enable an experimental handle on key assembly parameters, such as kinetics and resulting material properties. Further, targeted design may enable access to novel types of social self-sorting, that can combine photophysical properties commonly associated with the molecular dissolved state and mechanical properties, resulting from the assembly process.
