研究開始時の研究の概要 |
This project will cultivate a nuanced understanding of the importance of cultural diversity in emotional AI ethics by exploring the epistemological and ontological dimensions of emotion-sensing technologies in the workplace as well as grow & nurture my own philosophical understanding of AI through my and my teams collaboration efforts at Kate Hamburger Cultures of Research Centre.

研究実績の概要 |
PI mapped the ecology of EAI in Japan & Germany. The PI performed a literature review of articles on the quantified workplace, and performed web-scraping to track media reports of the latest trends in self-tracking devices. PI also ventured to Germany, and Italy to collaborate and interview academics on the subject of AI in the workplace as well as did presentations in Italy and Germany. PI also journeyed to Kate Hamburger Institute (KHK) where PI performed our first official meeting to discuss the three year collaboration as well as attended lectures by current fellows at the institute. PI gave a lecture at KHK, took part in lab visits at a super computing laboratory outside Aachen. Co-Is Miyashita and Konishi performed desk top analysis and preliminary biblio-metric analysis. Co-I Ghotbi did archival work in England. PM did archival work while Berlin as well as performed site visits to TESLA mega-factory.

理由
The project was slightly delayed due to demands of international collaborators in preparation of their institutes funding renewal. Because the directors and the fellows of the institute needed to do extensive financial and academic preparation for their reporting to the Japanese government, the directors of the institute were not able to fully focus. However, this did not prevent me from opening up discussions with both directors as well as having collaborations with key researchers at the German institute. Moreover, the time spent at KHK participating in presentations given by the fellows was productive as it falls in line one of my main intentions which is to improve my philosophical understanding of AI.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
The PI's plan is to continue to collect from data from EAI Vendors and clients. These interviews will encompass design engineers to factory floor/office managers. These interviews will take place in start-ups, mid-size businesses to legacy companies. We also intend to conduct governance issues with with unions, policymakers, and privacy-focused NGOs in both countries, to explore issues of EAI data use at work, such as access, control, and privacy. Later we will employ polling companies to gauge attitudes to EAI in the workplace in Japan & Germany via 2 demographically representative online national surveys (1 in Japan, 1 in Germany). PI will also intend to spend at least six weeks at KHK as a short term fellow participating in the institute's lectures and lab visits.
