研究成果の概要

本研究では、核磁気共鳴分光装置の内に設置した液晶セルに電場を印加して（電場重複印加核磁気共鳴分光法）、液晶ダイレクタ配向の非平衡状態を制御できるようにしました。これにより、ダイレクタ回転緩和過程におけるダイレクタ空間分布を数100マイクロ秒の時間分解で測定可能にしました。この測定手法と弾性理論を用いて、液晶材料の物理定数を測定することができます。さらに、スピン核種として重水素を用いる重水素化核磁気共鳴分光法によって、液晶分子の任意のサイトの空間配向分布や動的挙動を独立して同時に測定可能にしました。特に、磁場と電場が直交する系では、液晶ダイレクタの自発的な“ゆらぎ”の観測も可能になりました。
