研究成果の概要

預言者ムハンマドの一族を称する人々のムスリム諸社会における立場と役割，彼らが主張する血統に対する教義上・イスラーム法上の位置づけ，そして，彼らの血統の正しさを保証する存在である系譜学者たちの活動について研究を行った。特に，14-15世紀に活躍したイラクのシーア派諸都市出身の系譜学者たちの活動を検討し，それが当時のシーア派コミュニティの勢力拡大戦略（「隠れた宗派主義」）と深く関係していたことを解明した。これは，預言者一族の血統に対する教義上・イスラーム法上の位置づけがどのような歴史的展開を見せてきたのかを考える上できわめて重要な発見である。
