土木構造物のデザインプロセスの中で，「情報」は抽象から具体へのピラミッド構造を有するという仮定の下，建設プロジェクトを対象とした情報フロー分析により情報構造の存在を実証的に明らかにした．またライフサイクル間における情報継承が人による暗黙の技術継承に依存していることから，今後，意思決定段階で生成される情報を包含した知識マネジメントシステムが必要であることを示した．さらにコンピュータの高度利用を前提とした設計プロセス，設計基準，運用方法を提案するとともに，設計者，システム開発者，検証者の三者の関係を表した．そして土木構造物のライフサイクルの中での組織的な情報マネジメントのための階層構造を示した．
