Biochar and limonite will be used to improve the anaerobic digestion of livestock manure. Through the combined effect of biochar (reduction of toxic substances) and limonite (promote direct interspecies electron transfer), a high-rate anaerobic digestion process will be established. Moreover, a good quality digestate will be produced with possible recovery of essential elements (N, P, K). The results of this research will allow the establishment of efficient anaerobic digestion in livestock farming through the reduction of biodigester size and the utilization of digestate in agriculture.
