| 研究開始時の研究の概要 |
The plan focuses on A-bomb survivors'perspectives on the need for enactment of reparations for the A-bomb damage in the form of state compensation/official apology. It will examine comprehensively the different motivations of those who demand reparations, those who do not, and those who feel unsure.

| 研究実績の概要 |
The main purpose of the project is to clarify hibakusha’s perspectives on the need for reparations for the atomic bomb damage by the Japanese and U.S. governments, integrating hibakusha studies (HS) and transitional justice (TJ) to build a novel analytical framework. To this end, the author first examined the developments of HS and TJ studies, identifying overlapping research approaches, objectives, and remaining research issues. The published study builds an important theoretical foundation for the empirical part of the project. It also makes an original and significant contribution to the TJ field, as well as to the internationalization of the HS field. Thus, the author achieved two of the objectives stated in the research plan. Furthermore, an archival research-based study was added to the original plan for the purpose of deepening the contextual background of the project by examining the history and evolution of Nihon Hidankyo's (Japan Confederation of H-and A-Bomb Sufferers Organizations) demands for reparations. Part of the results focusing on the demand for state compensation were published in an article, and participation in an international conference to report the findings was accepted. The presentation is scheduled for early July. A third article presenting the archival research results is currently being written.

理由
It was decided that, before concluding the empirical work, there is a need to further deepen the background and theoretical foundation of the study. Therefore, the preparatory phase of the project was extended by adding archival research. Considerable work on the foundation of HS as a field and the collective-level demands of hibakusha was successfully concluded. Some of the results were published in a Q1 international journal of high thematic relevance to the subject matter. In addition, preparations for the field work are ongoing, extending the network of local organizations that will support the data collection. Despite the change in the original project, it is expected that the field work will be concluded as planned, leaving sufficient time for the data analysis.
|
| 今後の研究の推進方策 |
The next phase of the project is to conclude the data collection. It is expected that the planned interviews will be concluded between May and September. The data transcription and preparation are planned to be ready by October, leaving sufficient time for the analysis. No changes in the analytical steps are envisioned. Given that the author has already secured participation in an international conference in Japan (The Asian Studies Conference Japan) to share the research findings, the overseas expenses for conference participation might be reduced. In such a case, the remaining expenses will be used to cover article processing charges.
