This research will develop a biocultural data chart to evaluate the status of sociocultural ecosystems, to provide a different approach to environmental issues, and to offer a set of guidelines to evaluate the management approach to marine areas. The outline of the research will be: 1.pre-fieldwork in Japan, 2. Understanding islandscape geography and identifying stake holders, 3. First and second Steering committee meeting, 3. Ethnographic fieldwork in Japan and Hawaii, 4. First data analysis and presenting preliminary findings hypothesis at international conferences.
