| 研究開始時の研究の概要 |
Recent research on confraternities suggest that indulgences were important for the members of Japanese Christian lay confraternities but there is not much research about his topic. This project aims to understand why indulgences were meaningful for the Japanese commoners. For that purpose, it is necessary to clarify what confraternities were active in Japan, and analyze the beliefs underlying those rules and indulgences within the Japanese religious context. This should elucidate what beliefs motivated Japanese commoners to join Christian confraternities and wish for indulgences.
