The research will be conducted in three phases. In the first phase, teacher judgments of L2 English content words will be collected. In the second phase, a psychometric analysis of these teacher judgments will be conducted to assess the viability of constructing a new L2 data-driven lexical sophistication metric (i.e., a construct validity assessment). In the third phase, this new metric's criterion validity will be evaluated in both word and text difficulty research where the metric acts as a predictor. The results are expected to be shared through publications in international journals.
