研究成果の概要

本研究は、ペルーアマゾンにおいて最大規模のフィールド調査を実施し、リモートセンシング・地理情報システム(GIS)と組み合わせて、熱帯雨林の保全と開発に向けた革新的な学際研究を行うものである。収集済みの流域全村調査データ（6流域919村）をもとに、農村・家計標本調査を235村、約4000家計を対象に実施した。リモートセンシング・GISにより、森林被覆、洪水脆弱性、開放水域・浸水域、土地肥沃度、河川ネットワーク距離等の指標を作成した。これらのデータを結合して、様々な重要なテーマについて実証分析を行い、顕著な学術貢献につながった。本研究は、卓越した学際的国際共同研究に発展した。

研究成果の学術的意義や社会的意義

「熱帯雨林の保全と開発はどうしたら両立できるのか」という人類にとっての大きな課題に取り組んだ。実証分析（経済学）、フィールドリサーチ（地理学）、リモートセンシングという３つの研究群を有機的に統合し、これまでにないスケールで、革新的な学際的国際共同研究を実践した。導かれた多くの新しい知見は、アマゾン熱帯雨林の保全と開発のための政策立案・実践に極めて有益である。
