研究概要

宇宙最大の爆発現象であるガンマ線バースト(GRB)の起源の総合的な解明に向け、代表者がテレビ会議等を通じて全体の総括を行いながら、各主要分野で以下のような成果をあげることができた。
(1) GRBの距離指標:新たに発見した、GRBの最大光度、ピークエネルギー及び活動時間の間の相関の理論的理解を進めた。2007年に発表したGRBの光球放射モデルに基き、整合性のある解釈に成功した。
(2) GRBの親星、母銀河:高赤方偏移GRB親星の形成環境である低金属度ガス中での星形成過程について考察し、特に高温の宇宙背景輻射の効果、連星形成の条件、形成中の星からのフィードバックによる星の上限質量を調べた。
(3) 超新星爆発:これまでに観測されたIbc型超新星の中で最も光度の低い超新星SN 2008haについて、超新星爆発した大質量星の大部分が、ブラックホールに再落下してしまった爆発モデルによって説明し、超新星が観測されなかった近傍のlong GRBとの関連性を論じた。
(4) ジェットの伝播:ジェット形成の一般相対論的磁気流体シミュレーションを行った。またジェットからの熱放射を計算し、最近観測されたGRB090902Bのスペクトルとの比較を行った。
(5) GRBと残光の放射:我々の銀河内で太古に発生したGRBの残骸からのガンマ線放射や電子・陽電子宇宙線の量を計算し、GRBがTeV未同定天体やPAMELA陽電子宇宙線超過の起源になりうるかどうかを議論した。また、GRBの偏光の統計的性質やGeVガンマ線放射のGRB開始時間依存性などを調べた。さらには、X線残光のなめらかな減衰期の理論モデルの一つであるprior emission modelはGeVガンマ線帯域の残光が特徴的に明るくなることを示した。
