研究概要

「計算物理」という概念が提唱されてから既に久しく、わが国でも計算機を駆使した物性研究は着実に進展している。この傾向は今後とも一層強くなることが確実であると思われるが、「計算物理」を支援する体制が、特に物性物理学の分野においては欧米のいくつかの国に比べてやや立ち遅れている。この状況を打開するには、まず第一にこの分野のコミュニティ-を確立し、計算物理の現状と将来を分析することである。第二にそれを基礎として、計算機の設備計画を含めた将来計画を建て、それを実現することである。この後者の方向については、物性研究所を中心として「物性研究専用の大型計算機システム」導入を目指すプロジェクトが進行中である。
本科学研究費補助金は、上記第一の目的のために活用された。即ち、コミュニティ-を確立するための第一歩として、物性物理における計算物理で活躍する研究者間の交流を図るとともに、各研究者の分野での研究の現状と問題点を明らかにするために、平成1年10月23、24日の2日間にわたって、東京大学物性研究所において研究会を開いた。1988年5月に物性研究所短期研究会として、同名の研究会が開催され、その報告は固体物理24巻3号(1989)に「計算物理」特集号として出版されている。本研究会はその後の発展をまとめると共に、前回の研究会では取り上げることのできなかった話題をできるだけ集める努力をした。講演者は必ずしも分担者に限ることなく、若手研究者の参加を奨励するように努めた。
なお、本科学研究費補助金のグル-プを基盤として、平成3年度発足の重点領域研究への申請を行った。
