研究概要

1992年に京都において開催される第29回万国地質学会の科学プログラムの原案を作成した。1989年8月に、日本における地球科学の諸分野を代表する地球科学者3ー5名、合計80名よりなる科学プログラム委員会を組織した同時に10名よりなる運営委員会を設けた。まず運営委員会において科学プログラム作成の基本方針を決定し、それに基づき科学プログラム委員が、それぞれの分野の関連学会や研究組織等からの意見を考慮してシンポジウムを企画した。それらのシンポジウムの内容、数等を全体委員会、名分野の代表委員会、および運営委員会(総計10回)において検討した。そして1989年12月に科学プログラムの原案を提案した。科学プログラムは、特別シンポジウムA、B、C、シンポジウムI、IIの五種類よりなる。特別シンポジウムA、Bはそれぞれ、島孤の形成と進化に焦点を絞った地球の進化、および地球科学の人類社会への今後の役割についてのシンポジウムで、合計11のセッションよりなり全体の会議の主流を作るものである。Cは地球科学の国際的プロジェクトのシンポジウムよりなる。シンポジウムIはmultidisciplinaryな55のシンポジウムよりなり、シンポジウムIIは25の分野に分かれ、各分野毎3ー7のセッションよりなり、総計150のセッションよりなる。この科学プログラムを1990年2月1日、パリにおけるのIUGSの特別委員会において検討し多少の改定を行った。この最終案をFirst Circularの科学プログラムとした。
