研究概要

近年、酸化物高温超伝導体の発見等により希土類の知名度は高まって来ているが、今なおこれらの元素群の本質の理解には程遠く、用途も限られた分野にのみ散見される。そこで、本研究では希土類の持つこれまでに知られていない側面を整理すると共にこれらを活用した新しい材料を生み出す第一歩となることを目指す。希土類が重要な役割を担っている分野について現状を調査し、新たに進むべき方向を見い出し、さらに研究を実施すべき具体的な課題を明らかにするため、それぞれの分野の専門家21名とアドバイザ-2名による全体会議が開催された。希土類元素の高純度化と新しい分離プロセスの開発に関しては、液体アンモニアによる金属の精製、協同効果抽出剤としてのカルボン酸の利用、および新規な乾式分離法等が提案された。新しい希土類無機化合物の探索においては、スカンジウム錯体、2価状態の化合物、および異核二核錯体の合成の可能性が示唆された。希土類有機金属化合物の合成については、種々の希土類反応剤を用いる新しい反応の発見や新規な合成手段の開発の可能性が示された。希土類を含む複合酸化物の合成と物性に関しては話題となっている高温超伝導体開発の基礎となったペロブスカイト類縁化合物の構造、希土類添加ジルコニアの物性、人工歯根材料への応用、希土類リン酸塩鉱物の性質等に関する報告がなされた。新しい希土類合金系の開発においては、希土類添加アルミニウム合金および耐熱合金の合成・物性について紹介されると共に、アモルファス希土類合金薄膜の機能性材料への応用の可能性についても示された。また、希土類を用いた触媒として、天然ガス機能化触媒および低原子価化合物を含む金属系触媒の将来性について説明がなされた。本研究グル-プは本総合研究遂行のために結成されたものであるが、より組織を強化し、重点領域研究等へ発展させることを目指す。
