中性子星への降着流の研究

研究概要

X線天文衛星“ぎんが"の観測により低質量連星型X線星に関し次のような重要で新しい観測事実が得られた。
(1)Horizontal branchではQPOと低振動数ノイズ成分の強さがそれぞれ独立に変動している。
(2)X線パルサ-Cen Xー3と4U 1626ー67からもQPOを検出した。
上の観測事実をふまえ、Horizontal branch QPOのメカニズムとして有力視されているビ-ト振動数モデルを吟味した。その結果、このモデルで仮定しているplasma clumpと磁場との相互作用は上の観測事実(1)と矛盾すること、更にX線パルサ-に応用すると、パルサ-の降着トルクの理論に修正が必要であることを見出した。中性子星表面からの黒体幅射と降着円盤からの黒体幅射という2成分モデルを用いて観測されている二色図および色一強度図のfittingを行なった。Normal branchにおける強度変動は、かってMitsuda達(1984)が示したように、中性子星表面成分の強度の増減で良く合うが、Horizontal branchは降着円盤からの黒体幅射の温度の変化も必要であることがわかった。
現時点ではほぼ当初の目的・計画どうりに研究は進展している。しかし、新たな観測事実が加わるにつれ、エネルギ-スペクトルの性質やQPO現象により複雑な要素が加わってきた。そのため、新たにどの観測事実が降着増、QPOのより重要な情報を担っているのかを選び出す作業が必要となってきた。そこで平成2年3月2、3日、約25人の研究者に立教大学に集まっていただき、ワ-クショップを開いた。現状分析、問題点の堀り下げ、そして活発な理論と観測とのinterplayを行い、示唆に富んだ意見を多く得ることができた。これらをもとにして次年度の目標に迫ることができると考えている。
