研究概要

昨年度開発した衝突装置を用いて、岩石の衝突時における破片の速度分布とサイズ分布の関係を明らかにする実験が行われた。
衝突実験として次の3種類の実験が行われた。(1)玄武岩やその他のタ-ゲットに速度が3〜4km/sの弾丸を打ち込んだときの破壊の様相から、破片の速度および自転速度の破片質量に対する依存性を明らかに出来た。(2)低速度の衝突過程を調べるためにタルクなどのタ-ゲットにステンレス球を2〜50m/sの範囲で衝突させ、跳ね返り係数、衝突点での温度上昇などを測定した。(3)氷タ-ゲットに対する衝突過程を調べるために、種々の材料の弾丸を100〜400m/sで氷に打ち込んだ。この結果、氷天体に出来るクレ-タ-の形態、氷微惑星の衝突破壊についての貴重なデ-タが得られた。これらの実験的結果は世界でもはじめてのものであり、惑星形成過程の理解に大きな貢献をなすものと考えられる。
隕石にみられる情報から惑星形成過程に関する情報を引き出す研究として、次の3種類の研究が行われた。(1)強度のショックを受けたと思われるユレイライトの鉱物学的研究により、結晶粒界に不揮発性元素が短時間に濃集し、揮発性元素が失われた事が明らかになった。これは炭素質コンドライトからユレイライトが作られる過程を示しているものと結論される。(2)HEDエイコンドライトの鉱物学的研究により、HEDエイコンドライトの母天体で激しい衝突が起きており、マントルと地殻を混ぜ合わせるような作用があった事が詳しく追跡されるようになった。(3)普通隕石中に見られる金属鉄粒子の形態と物性をこれらの隕石の受けた衝突の程度と相関させる研究を行った。
宇宙雪氷学的研究として氷・岩石混合物の力学的、電気的性質についての実験的研究が行われた。特に氷・岩石混合物の圧密クリ-プのデ-タは氷天体の内部構造を論じるときの基礎デ-タになるものである。
