研究概要	本研究は,現代のバイオサイエンスの急速な発展を支える基礎として益々重要性が指摘されている新しい実験動物の開発を目的とする。新しい実験動物とは,野生動物の遺伝子資源の利用および遺伝子工学によって次々に分離される遺伝子DNAを遺伝子操作によって個体に導入したもののことである。従来は,直接人為的な操作を施す方法としては,化学物質の投与や放射線照射による突然変異の誘発等が行なわれてきたが現代の遺伝子工学および発生工学の進歩によって胚への遺伝子DNAの注入が可能になったことにより,研究したい遺伝子のみを計画的に導入することができるようになった。この技術的発展によって新しい学問分野が開拓されてきたともいえよう。以上の目的を実現するため,本年度は,3班からなる計画班と,その上部に本総括班を置いた。研究は順調に進展した。各班および公募研究班員の成果をとりまとめ本年度研究成果報告書をまとめ発行した。またニュ-スレタ-の発行,各班会議,総括班幹事会を行ない研究の進展の促進を図った。また,本年度は,諸外国から成功が報じられ,我々も努力していたとはいえ失行されてしまった遺伝子標的導入法の確立の準備に力を注いだ。具体的には,実験動物中央研究所を今後その中核となる研究施設とするため,備品等を揃え,実験を実施した。その結果,急速に欧米の研究室に追いつき,来年度には大きな成果が期待できるまでになったといえる。本班の主たる役割は,このように研究実施中に思わざる展開に即応して,機動的に対処することもその一つであると考えられる。その点からも,本年度本総括班の果し得た役割は大きいものといえる。さらに,各班員の評価を行ない,来年度の研究組織の改変を実施した。
