研究概要

本総研の目的は光学顕微鏡とEPMAを併用した鉱石と研究の総合、研究法の問題点の提起とその解決である。
初年度は山口市、第2年度は東京都、第3年度は岩手県野田玉川鉱山で研究集会を行った。その際、他分野の研究機関の見学、EPMAメーカーの技術者との意見の交換を行った。
最近EPMA分野に取り入れられたのは画像処理であり、その一つはマッピング機能であり、一つはEPMA組成像を解析するものである。後者は経費が比較的に少なく、分解能では前者より優れているので、一部分担者によって取り入れられている。またチャネリング効果も反射電子像による組織の観察に影響を与えている。これらについては既に論文が公表されたり、本総研究成果報告書に収録されている。
多くの分担者によって注目されているのは閃亜鉛鉱である。この鉱物は天然に広く算出し、かつ一旦生成するとアニーリングされ難く、化学組成と組織構造の両面から生成時の状況を残しているので、鉱床の成因を追究していくのに最適である。この観点から、1994年国際鉱物学連合総会のシンポジウムテーマとして同連合鉱石鉱物委員会に提案することとした。またこれまで十分には研究されていなかった鉱物や産状の研究、それらによる変成条件・堆積環境の吟味も分担者によって行われ、そのいくつかは成果報告書に収録されている。
EPMAの基本機能である元素分析についても、データのオンライン処理、ネットワーク処理が行われているが、目的によっては研究者自身による微調整が必要であり、そのためのパーソナルプログラムも開発されており、その一部は公表され、また成果報告書に収録されている。
