研究概要

新しい材料の創製には新しい材料合成の方法の確立が不可欠である。本総合研究においては、無機材料の設計のみならず、新プロセスの探索をも研究の目標とした。この研究を実施するに当たっては、3グル-プ、即ち材料設計と固相プロセッシング、材料設計と液相プロセッシングおよび材料設計と気相プロセッシングに分け、横断的連携をも配慮しつつ研究を推進した。
固相プロセッシングのグル-プでは、高圧合成や固相反応などを用い合成方法の改善、精密制御を行い、新物質の創製に成功した。代表的な業績を列挙すると次のようになる。新しい合成法による成果として、新強磁性体MnGe_4の発見、ガス圧焼結法による傾斜材料の製造などがある。合成条件のコントロ-ルによって、セラミックスの微細組織を制御して極めて高い硬度を得ることに成功した。反応・焼結の過程を検討することにより,Si_3N_4ーY_2O_3系の粒成長に及ぼす粒界の影響を解明した。
液相プロセッシングのグル-プでは、Alのキレ-ト化合物を前駆体としアルミナ繊維の新しい作製プロセスを開発した。ゾル-ゲル法により、電気、光学特性に優れたSnO_2膜の作製、均一沈澱法によるMgAl_2O_4粉体の合成・焼結で高密度セラミックスの作製に成巧した。更に、有機金属化合物及び誘導体の化学結合と熱分解条件の制御によって、炭素中に金属、合金或はフェライトが分散した材料の作製が可能となった。
気相プロセッシングのグル-プでは、コンピュ-タ・コントロ-ルレ-ザ-MBE法によって、層状構造を持つ金属酸化物や酸化物超伝導体の原子層制御での薄膜作製に成功し、更に人工の新物質をも作製した。また、バイアススパッタ法を用いてcーBN薄膜合成に成功した。酸化物薄膜の成長メカニズムをRHEEDから解明した。
