サ-モトロピック液晶性セルロ-ス誘導体の溶液学的研究

研究概要	平成2年度の研究で、セルロ-スのアルキルエ-テル誘導体が無容媒系で形成するコレステリック液晶が、主として、セルロ-ス主鎖の半剛直性に基づくエントロピ-効果(排除体積効果)により安定化された中間相であることを分子論的に明らかにした。3年度の研究では、セルロ-スのアルキルエステル誘導体の液晶性を詳しく調べ、エ-テル及びエステル量誘導体のサ-モトロピック性の相違を比較検討した。数種の全置換セルロ-スデカノエ-ト(TDC)を合成し、分取用GPCを用いて比較的分子量分布の狭い(Mw/Mn=1.0〜1.3)多くの区分を得た。これらエステル誘導体の融点Tmは重合度(DP)によらずほぼ一定の値(約65℃)を示した。一方、液晶一等方相転移温度Tiは重合度依存性を示し、オリゴマ-領域では、DPが2から増加するにつれTiは低下し、DP≧5で液晶性は消失した。X線回折によると、この領域の中間相はディスコティックカラムナ-相であることが判明した。DP≧20で再び中間相が現れ、この相は分子軸をカラム軸方向と平行するカラムナ-相であった。この相のTiはDPと共に上昇し、DP≧200でほぼ一定値(約100℃)を示した。この挙動は、定性的には、エ-テル誘導体のTi点の挙動と一致するものの、Tiが一定となるDPの値が全く異なり(エ-テル誘導体ではDP〜1000)、排除体積効果のみでは説明できない。因みに、溶液論的に決定した持続長Pの値は、両誘導とも約90Aであり、分子形態は、両者でほぼ等しい。赤外吸収スペクトルの温度依存性を調べた結果、カルボニル基の1750cm^<-1>付近の吸収がTi点で不連続な変化を示すことから、エステル誘導体の中間相が、分子鎖形異方性に加え、カルボニル基の関係する分子間相互作用により安定化された構造であると結論した。
