研究概要

STEP計画は、地球を襲う激動する太陽エネルギ-として知られる太陽風や紫外線が地球のエネルギ-バランスに及ぼす影響を基礎科学の立場にたって究明することを目的としている。この計画では多数の科学衛星に対応し、ロケット、気球、そして地上の諸観測の実施を基本として、その観測デ-タの有効利用、及び結果に基づくモデリングや理論研究を実施する。そしてこれらの全ての研究活動は、かつてなかった広範な情報交換を基礎とする国際協同研究によることが不可欠である。本研究はこのSTEP計画の全準備及び国際プロジェクトとの調整を計りつつ、国内計画を組み上げその実施体制を整えていくことを目的としている。本年度の研究は、この研究目的にそってほぼ計画どうりに進められた。
1.国内における国際協同研究活動
(1)第2回STEPシンポジウムを開催(平成3年5月)し、国内の各課題・各サブグル-プの発表に基づき、我国の国際協同観測の役割と特色を検討し実施の方策が確認された。この成果は第2回STEPシンポジウム報告書として出版された。
(2)国内のSTEP研究の進歩状況を広く広報する目的をもつSTEPニュ-スレタ-の第1号を発刊した。
2.国際STEP国際協同研究活動
(1)太平洋地域STEP会議(平成3年4月、台湾)に出席し、アジア、太平洋地域のSTEP研究の実施策の検討、確認を行った。
(2)国際STEP運営委員会(平成3年8月、オ-ストリア・ウイ-ンで開催)に我が国の3名の委員が出席し、国際協同観測の経過の報告、今後の方針を討議した。
(3)カナダ・ビクトリア大学において、STEP計画一番手として打ち上げられた日本のEXOSーD衛星の観測・研究成果を紹介すると共に、カナダのCANOPUS計画とEXOSーD衛星との協同観測の整合を打ち合わせた。
(4)平成3年11月奈良で開催された国際宇宙開発機関(IACG)に出席し、STEP機関における衛星打ち上げ計画の詳細を打ち合わせた。
(5)1991年に開催された国際MSTレ-ダ-シンポジウムの研究成果を国際STEP研究の成果として出版した。
