研究概要

1990年11月に第2回世界気候会議が開催され、1980年以来行われてきた気候変動国際協同研究計画(WCRR)にレビュ-が行われ、同時に、地球温暖化問題に対処するため設けられた「気候変動に関する政府間パネル(IPCC)」の科学的知見についてのまとめが提出された。これらによって気候変動研究は、世界的にひとつの転機にさしかかった。一方、日本では、1987年度以来4年計画ですすめられて来た国際協力事業WCRPが1990年度をもって終了した。このような背景の下で、今年度は、日本の研究成果を国際的検討の場で発表し、今後の展開の方向をさぐることと、WCRPに直接・間接関連した国際会議やワ-クショップで気候変動研究の新しい方向を世界の研究者と討論することに力点をおいた。
(1)WCRPの新しい副計画GEWEXの中心となるGCIPの立案会議に参加し、陸上水循環の研究計画について討論した。
(2)日本のWCRPで重点的に観測を行った雲の放射影響について、イギリス、ドイツ、オ-ストリアの研究機関で成果を発表し討論を行った。
(3)地球温暖化が実際に起こっているかどうか調べるため、過去100年余のデ-タを使って全地球平均気温の変化を求め、イギリスその他の研究者の結果と比較・検討した。
(4)エルニ-ニョ南方振動(ENSO)現象に関連して重要な熱帯域の長周期大気変動の実態とそのメカニズムについて国際会議で最近の研究のレビュ-を行い、新しい問題提起をした。
(5)「21世紀に向けての環境と開発のための科学アジェンダ」会議(1991年11月、於ウィ-ン)に参加し、気候研究の今後の展開について総合的な討論を行った。
