研究概要

本年度は、シンチレ-ションファイバ-、及びシリコンマイクロストリップ半導体を使った軌跡検出器の開発状況について、米国、欧州において調査研究を行ってきた。これによって明らかとなった、世界の開発の現状を以下にまとめてみる。
1)シンチレ-ションファイバ-:ファイバ-からの光は、極めて微弱なためイメ-ジインテンシファイア-(IIT)により増幅し、CCDカメラ等を使って読み出す。このやり方は、読み出し速度等にいくつかの問題があるが、現時点では唯一の実用化された方法である。アバランシュフォトダイオ-ドなどの半導体検出器を用いた全く新しい試みも始められつつあるが、商用ベ-スでの応用がない限り、実用化にはまだ時間を要する。この実用化にめどがたてば、シンチレ-ションファイバ-軌跡検出器は、バ-テックス検出器としても極めて有望なものとなろう。
調査と並行して我々は、従来システムにおける問題点である、読み出し速度について改良をするために、高速コンパレ-タとFIFOメモリ-を使った、CCD画像信号の処理装置の開発を行った。
2)シリコンマイクロストリップ半導体検出器:この種の半導体検出器は、近年完全に実用の段階に達し、アメリカ、フェルミ研究所のCDF実験、ヨ-ロッパ、CERNにおけるLEP実験などの世界の主要な実験装置に組み込まれ、成果を挙げはじめている。現在主流になっているのは、P面電極のみをストリップ化したいわゆる「片面」デゥァイスで、一次元の位置情報のみを読み出すことが出来る。最近になってn面電極もストリップ化することで、二次元の位置情報を単一の検出器(両面デヴァイス)から取り出そうとする試みが、各地で進んでいる。
