研究概要	1992年1月13日(月)〜15日(水)、当重点領域研究発足以来3年間の研究成果をもって総合的なシンポジウムを行い、今年度の研究地域、アメリカ大陸へのモンゴロイドの移住と拡散の問題を重点的に討議し、最初のアメリカ人の登場等につき下記の結論を得た。 1.約2〜3万年前、北緯60度以北の東北シベリアのアルダン川流域に本格的に進出し、定着することに成功した先史モンゴロイドのなかから引き続き東進した一団が現れる。 2.先史モンゴロイドが東進を試みたのは最終氷期の極相期、約21000年前以降と考えられ、ちょうどシベリア・アラスカ陸橋ベ-リンジアが最も拡大する時期であり、そして最初のアメリカ人の登場は再びベ-リング海峡があらわれる約14000年以前である。 3.最終氷期の北アメリカ北部には大陸氷河が広く発達しており、アラスカに到達した先史モンゴロイドはしばらくアラスカの地に閉じ込められるが、約12000年前にカナダ・ロッキ-山脈東麓にあらわれた無氷回廊を経由して南下する。 4.無氷回廊を通り北アメリカ大陸南部の大平原に到達した先史モンゴロイドは、その後約1万5〜6千kmの距離を約1000年という、それまで人類が移住・拡散に要した時間を考えるとまさに一瞬のうちに南アメリカ大陸最南端に到達した。
